As a journalist turned research lawyer, I’ve been using electronic databases throughout my career, beginning with corporate or government in-house systems predating the Internet.

Electronic research dominated  my law school career, including the premier services of Westlaw and Lexis, but also second- and third-tier lesser-expensive sources such as FastCase, FindLaw, JSTORE, and others, and even free sources such as law schools like Cornell's legal databas, institutional databases provided federal, state and municipal governments, and Google Scholar, Google's excellent DB all federal courts and rapidly expanding many state DBs.

One distinct advantage to outsourcing legal research is obvious in terms of efficiency with respect to time and money. And as your “on-call” research associate, I will conduct the research within any parameters you set.

But there’s an added benefit to having research outsourced in that it brings a different perspective that may present facets to your matter that had not yet been considered in the same light.

Generally, LAW fees are based on a rate of $40 per hour and can be translated into a flat fee or hourly with a cap to be exceeded only on explicit authorization.
